Nuclear Icebreakers were built in order to make passage of ships near the Arctic shores possible. Russia had built 10 nuclear icebreakers, three of which are retired now “Lenin” “Sibir” and “Antarktika”. The brand new “50 years since Victory” which was ironically completed late in 2007 - after the 60 years since the WW2 Victory, is currently the biggest nuclear icebreaker in the world.
