Avoid St. Petersburg Beaches…

by Rfun

St. Petersburg officials want foreign tourists to visit their museums, but there are few things that those city officials would rather hide from the foreign tourists. We’ve already shown you the surprisingly horrible beaches of St. Petersburg. Now here is a picture that shows you how those “bad beaches” are formed. You’d have to be pretty crazy and brave to swim in St. Petersburg waters especially after seeing how much glass will end up there this summer…

As I am pondering on this great tragedy, I wonder about the viability of establishing private groups who voluntarily would clean up sections of the beach on a regular basis. In the U.S., often times groups or businesses will “adopt” sections of a highway or whatnot and then go out and clean the trash from it on a regular basis. It is very common to see signs on the side of the highway “This section adopted by Such and Such Group”.

Are there any recycling programs in St. Petersburg? If someone could get cash for turning in glass bottles, it could be profitable to clean the beaches and recycle the glass.

    That picture makes me sad.
