The BMW motorcycle is not a R71, it is an R61. Biggest difference: the R61 has a plate-frame, the R71 a tube-frame. The R61 was used by the German Army, the R71 was not, it was a civilian motorbike. It’s plans were sold to the USSR as part of Molotov - Ribbentrop Trade Pact.
The R71 was father of the Ural and Dnepr M72, which was in turn father of Chinese Chang Jiang M1 in the 50’s.
