From 1959 to 1985 USSR had built hundreds of thousands of ugly looking buildings called “Khrushevkas” - a name came from First Secretary of USSR Nikita Khrushev (1953-1964), under whom these buildings were first introduced. These simple panel block buildings were easy and fast to build, which at the time obviously mattered more than their styling.
